As per last year, very blustery conditions created a challenge to capture some good shots of Lancaster’s big annual fireworks display. I chose Skerton Bridge again as my vantage point, well away from the crowds and with the advantage of the river (albeit at low tide) to reflect some of the light in the foreground.
A strong side wind made the job exceptionally difficult as firworks were dragged sideways and didn’t look their best. I waited for larger brighter and stronger coloured firworks which allowed for a faster shutter speed as well as nicely illuminating the river before me. Throughout I was battling against the wind buffeting the camera on it’s tripod. The experience was made rather more gruelling, thanks to the driver who swerved to hit a large puddle and saoking me, on route to the bridge! It’s very satisfing to see that Lancaster City Council are still using my 2008 fireworks shot taken from Derwent Road, for their publicity for the event. That image forms part of my 30th anniversary photo exhibition at Lancaster Library. If you’ve not visited and are local, Do pop in before 12th!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my very small selection of fireworks photos this year. Fingers crossed for more and better next year!..
