With our endless fascination with the weather in this country, it seemed like a good reason to talk about weather photography. I start with the delightful phenomenon of rainbows.
Snapping a good rainbow shot is not easy….
1. They often usually last for only a few minutes and are of course as unpredictable as the weather itself.
2. You need to catch it at it’s strongest and have a dark sky behind to make it visible.
3. If the surrounding landscape is not interesting or dramatic, then the photo looses impact.
With the ‘almost-anything-is-possible in Photoshop’ option, I always ‘own-up’ to post photography digital enhancements… On the Stavely shot I slightly enriched the colour saturation and darkened the sky. Virtually nothing was done to alter the other shots, which were down to good light and good timing!
These and many more landscape prints can be viewed and purchased here and make great and unique gifts.
In the next in my series of weather photography articles, I take a look at the very photogenic snow.
As with all photos and articles in my blog, they are personal and don’t use extracts from other people’s websites.
