Space age; wind turbine blades

Love them or loathe them, wind turbines are a part of our modern landscape. North Lancashire just has a new one…. In one interesting and unusual commercial assignment last week, I was hired to photograph the two day installation of a wind turbine at Back Lane Quarry near Carnforth.

With perfect weather conditions (grey wind turbine against a grey sky isn’ good!), I bagged some shots for my client that  I was very pleased with (as was my customer).

Interesting shadows under one of the blades.

Apart from getting a crick in my neck after a while and trying totake pictures wearing a hard hat (if you’ve ever tried it you’ll understand!), dust was my main challenge. Changing lenses in the middle of a quarry on a dry breezy day is not good for the camera!wind turbine photographer

Almost there, the carefully calculated and impressive operation of attaching the turbine blades is almost complete.
