Grange-over-Sands on the Morecambe Bay coast is always a pleasant town to visit. If you wander along the picturesque Promenade

you will come across the remains of what was the Lido.

Grange Lido

It opened in the 1930s and closed it’s doors in 1993 having served as a very popular and well known venue. Plans have come and gone for many years to demolish or restore it. The local council want to redevelop the site, but in a recent survey locals want it restored as a pool.

Some lovely photo boards have recently brightened the exterior and given a sense of impending change. I took a wander round the outside the other day with my camera, to see what I could record before any changes take place.

If you place your camera lens against the fence and select the largest aperture setting you can; I chose f1.8, you can surprisingly virtually blur out all evidence of the fence! You’ll need a good lens to have that option of course. Mine was a Nikon 28mm and a very dull day necessitated an ISO setting of 640,ensured sharp pictures when  zooming.

Like many, I very much look forward to seeing positive progress with this Grange landmark, preferably as a pool. Let’s hope the Council have the desire and means to make it happen.

I hope you have enjoyed my focus on Grange Lido. What do you think should happen to this landmark? Post your comments below.
