A great spot for a stroll, some interesting photography, or just to bag a great view, is Farleton Fell a few miles south of kendal.
Turn right just past Burton-in-Kendal (heading north) at Clawthorpe Hall. Follow the lane for just over a mile and pull in at a small layby on your right. Whilst the majority of walkers then turn right here up onto the ‘Limestone Link’ path, try going left onto the limestone pavement of Newbiggin Crags (below).
A great place to admire Farelton Fell, if you prefer to remain at ‘ground level’ is from the Lancaster Canal near Holme (right).
Here is a small but stunning example of an alien landscape: limestone pavement.
Having admired the striking terrain, I headed northwards another mile and onto Farleton Fell. From the edge of the hill (a superb picnic spot) there is a great panoramic view down onto the Lancaster canal and M6, towards the Lakeland fells.
As with many of my landscaps views, the sky often dominates and this fish-eye lens shot benefits from the weather conditions.
From one extreme to another (in the lens department), I went from 10mm to 200mm, from the same spot, to catch this simple but pleasing view looking down onto the lush green fields bathed in dappled sunlight.
I rarely include a photo of myself (or my friend Anne) in a blog, but do here as it’s a nice example of the success of sitting the camera on the camera bag and using the self-timer!
No walk would be complete for me without experimenting with the macro setting on my 85mm lens.
I had to wait for the breeze to abate so I could get this shot of a tiny harebell flower, without it blurring. It took a number of attempts.
I think this amounts to a day of variety with my photography!
