Morecambe’s Vintage Festival has a growing reputation as an event worth going to judging by the numbers today.
With most of the attractions in and around the famous Art Deco Midland Hotel, it isn’t surprising that it featured in many of my snaps.
On a sunny day with a blue sky, the Midland Hotel couldn’t make a better and more appropriate backdrop for the display of shiny classic cars. I chose a low angle to add drama, show off the contrasting sky and hide people being ‘unwanted distractions’!
Always look for something a bit different when out and about with your camera and reflections often make for interesting shots. Ideally, the car would have been further from the building, so more would have been reflected, but I still felt it worked quite well. Beware of spoiling the shot by being in it yourself though!
My lovely friend Gillian, looked great after a 1940’s makeover and the hotel frontage gave a great background. I often take shots on quirky angles to add drama. Who says the camera should be horizontal or vertical?!
This shot amused me. Gillian grabbed a bargain at one of the stalls, buying this 1950’s bear, who looked great posing against the mural. Background is as important as foreground sometimes and may help ‘tell the story’.
I snapped the fairground carousel for a contrast and the horses make a great splash of colour. As the scene is so ‘busy‘ it can be lost unless taken close in. Even a close up of one of the horses heads could have made for a striking shot. A slow shutter and flash, creating a bit of motion blur would have been another interesting option, but not on a bright sunny day.
I was a little disappointed that the expected World War II flypast was reduced to one Dakota, however a Spitfire parked behind The Midland Hotel was a wonderful sight.
