Welcome to the second installment of my Singapore blog….
Few cities could have more contrasts than Singapore. A large part of it is classed as ‘Chinatown‘, from the hustle and bustle of crowded street markets to everything Chinese, it’s hard to believe you aren’t actually in a different country altogether.
This is one of my favourite shots that almost puts me in mind of a double-exposure between the rustic colourful charm of Chinatown with the majestic business district towering in the background. Surprising too, to find a city street with momentarily no traffic (even though it was Sunday morning), allowing the viewer to focus solely on the architecture.
I love night-time photography in a city, or better still, dusk, when there’s still some light and colour in the sky. Of course, neon signs have to be appreciated at night, whilst the daylight reveals the lovely architecture. Nice to compare.
A Buddhist monk calls worshipers to afternoon prayer with in this breathtakingly ornate temple in Chinatown; a must to visit and photography was welcomed inside.
A few hundred yards to the east of Chinatown is Little India, with a much smaller population was on a different scale to it’s larger neighbour, but is a must see for tourists. The decorations on the Indian temples are stunning, albeit rather faded by the tropical sun for most.
Escaping from the city, as many do, Sentosa IslandĀ is just a short hop by monorail, foot or cable car. Florida theme parks all rolled into one small island. For a more relaxing time, beautiful beaches are on the far side, spoiled only by the view of rows of oil tankers parked off shore! Hence my shot looking along the shoreline!
Mt transport to the island was by an exciting cable car ride. Not ideal shooting through smoked glass!
