Welcome to the first in my series of travel photography features (okay, my favorite holiday snaps!) from my recent trip to The Philippines. I hope you enjoy my journey to this beautiful and chaotic country and pick up a few photography tips to help improve your holiday snaps!

I started in the capital Manila; a sprawling city of contrasts, where affluence and growth meets poverty and crime.

Manila

Manila skyline from the Bay.

An extraordinary messy tangle of telephone and electric cables are strung up over every street.

Manila’s famous traffic chaos and pollution. Crossing the street was to dice with death!

A busy shipping lane and picturesque view from the city; looking out onto Manila Bay.

The above shot appealed to me in black & white. I’m not one for overdoing it in Photoshop, but I felt increasing the contrast a bit would make the ships stand out better, as well as the clouds over the distant mountains. I was pleased with this shot and very happy that I packed my ‘backup camera’; my trusty Nikon D70s with 18-200mm lens.

Next time… Let me introduce you to some of the Philippines people and their curious modes of transport!
