Being a gay photographer, as you can imagine, being asked to photograph civil partneships holds a special place in my heart…
I’ve just been booked for my third civil partnership, which takes place next month at the beautiful (and much photographed) Ashton Memorial in Lancaster. Practically identical to a civil marriage ceremony, the event has all the emotion of a wedding and given it’s relatively recent introduction is all the more poignant.
The next and fast approaching step for gay couples is to be able to call it a ‘wedding’ and have it conducted in a church. Whilst not all couples would choose this option, it is vitally important for gay partners desiring a religious ceremony to feel ‘fully equal’ to hetrosexual couples. I feel the next few years will be interesting and I very much look forward to being a part of the journey…
