It was a privilege and an honor to photograph Cumbria’s first ever same sex marriage on Saturday. The event took place at Wordsworth’s former home, Rydal Mount near Ambleside and the couple were Cathy and Alex.
The weather didn’t dampen the atmosphere of the day, although brollies, ‘hardy brides’ and a quick photographer were required for the portrait shots in the garden. The gardens are stunning in any weather and the view over the lake makes a fantastic backdrop.
Close up of the exchange of rings makes for a poignant shot.
As a photographer who favours the ‘reportage style’, my emphasis with the portraits is on very natural and relaxed shots, sometimes with subjects moving, rather than the ultra creative sometimes ‘over-staged’ shots of couples, preferred by some other wedding photographers.
Completing my work for the day was coverage of the speeches; always an enjoyable part of any wedding to photograph.
Many congratulations and my personal very best wishes to Cathy & Alex for their future together!…
