Over 100 runners gathered on Morecambe Prom this morning at the famous statue, for the first Eric Morecambe 3km Fun Run in aid of Comic Relief. I was covering the event for the City Council, who organised it, with photos primarily for distribution to the local papers.
The classic Eric pose was practically compulsory, next to the much photographed statue, now returned after recent vandalism.
Eric’s raised left leg gives a great (and often missed) vantage point for close-up photos.
Runners warm up in front of the statue prior to the start of the run along the seafront.
Just time to pose everyone together for a group photo before the run; carefully leaving a space so the statue is visible of course!
Mayor Coun Susie Charles announces the start as fun runners set off for the 3K event along the Prom, most wearing their trademark Eric glasses. The sponsored event, which was in aid of Comic Relief marked the return of the statue after repairs following recent vandalism.
The first runner home was Lee Parrington from Carnforth (below).
